Why Do We Get Red Eyes in Photos?
Morning Party Animals!

Ever find yourself at a party, when….

BLAM!
Demonic red eyes?
No?
Too young?
Check your childhood photos then:

Ya, why do cameras do that to us??
Well, imagine you're at a party...

You're having a great time when suddenly—

No, you're not.
But look what just happened to your eyes..
See, the back of your eyeball is covered in blood vessels.

And blood vessels are... red!
This is called the retina.

Now, normally, your pupils are tiny little black holes at the front of your eye:

But when it's dark at a party...

Your pupils get HUGE to let in more light!

So when that camera flash goes off...
The light zooms through your massive pupils...

Bounces off all those red blood vessels in the back...

And reflects straight back into the camera!

Making your eyes look like you're...

Possessed!
Which is why modern cameras have that annoying pre-flash...
It shrinks your pupils BEFORE taking the real photo!
