The Weird Science of Lucid Dreams

Your dream customers are out there right now, blissfully unaware you exist. (Honestly, it's a little rude.) Stop staring at a blank Google Doc at 2 AM, wondering "what should I post?"

Morning Lucid Dreamers!

Ever watch Inception and think "I want to do THAT"?

Well, like that’s part of it. Yes.

I mean the whole designing a dream world from scratch thing where you control the physics, embed crazy mazes, have a steaming hot make out session with your love interest, then return home slightly confused about what’s real life and what’s a dream..

Well, turns out you actually can do this.

It's called lucid dreaming, and the science behind it is absolutely wild...

So imagine it's bedtime. You close your eyes and drift off to sleep:

Now, let's go inside that brain of yours..

During normal sleep, this part

goes offline.

The prefrontal cortex is your logic center.

Which is why in dreams you can fly, talk to your dead grandma, and show up naked to school by accident...

...and it feels TOTALLY normal!

But sometimes something weird happens:

Your prefrontal cortex starts flickering back on!

That logic part of your brain is waking up while you're still dreaming!

This is a lucid dream!

Your brain is in this crazy hybrid state - part asleep, part awake.

Here’s the problem, though.

Most people can't do this naturally.

But everyone can learn!

You just need to hack this brain state:

First, you keep a dream journal!

This trains your brain to pay attention to dreams.

Then you must get in the habit of doing reality checks all day.

Like that spinning top in Inception, you can look at your hands and count your fingers:

But in dreams, your fingers look all wonky because your prefrontal cortex logic center is semi-offline!

And suddenly, you're DiCaprio in Inception…

Btw, we made a whole vid on why we dream. Check it out here 👇
