The Invention of Pizza đ
Morning Focaccia!
Ahh, focaccia đ€
The worldâs first pizza.
But how did we get these beauties??
It was the 16th century.
Naples, Italy-ish.
And this place f*cks, just look:
Weâve got horses on the beach.
Weâve got turret islands.
Weâve got boats doing the conga.
And if we zoom inâŠ
Ah, whatâs that?!
Yes yes, an early italian pizza guy.
Feeding blue collar workers in Naples who need something cheap and filling to eat.
So they turned toâŠbread with cheese!
And it was deliciousâŠ
There actually wasnât a problem with it.
But in 1861, Italy becomes an independent country.
There was a new king and queen in town.
King Umberto Rainerio Carlo Emanuele Giovanni Maria Ferdinando Eugenio di Savoia.
And Queen Margherita Maria Teresa Giovanna di Savoia.
Now, you might be thinking those ridiculously long names are completely useless.
And youâd actually be right.
So letâs go with King Umberto and Queen Margherita.
Now reigning over the new unified Italy, these two are like:
So they go on a road trip.
And it takes a very long time.
But when they finally get to Naples, the queen smells these delicious blue collar pizzas baking in the street:
But thereâs one pizza guy that sets himself apart from the others, Raffaele Esposito.
Raffaele wants to impress the queen with his patriotism.
So he gets a piece of bread.
He adds red tomatoes.
Slices white mozzarella.
And tops with green basil.
The colors of the Italian flag!
Now guess what he names this new pizza.
Come on, you didnât even try.
Okay fine.
Pizza Margherita Maria Teresa Giovanna di Savoia
Aka a Margherita pizza â named after the Queen.
And thanks to them, youâll eat like 6,000 slices of pizza in your lifetime.
Yum!
