How Do Laxatives Work? 💩

Morning Butt Gushers!

Humans poop a lot.

But, every now and then, the dreaded constipation strikes.

This is where laxatives come in.

Simply pop in a tablet…

Wait a little while…

And then the floodgates will open!

But how do these magical butt tablets actually work?

Well, here's how the most common type works.

Known by me as Planty Poop Softeners, but known by everyone else as Bulk-Formers, this type of laxative is a tablet full of some weird lookin stuff called dietary fibers.

What are dietary fibers?

Well, they’re basically just plants that we kinda struggle to digest.

Stuff like this:

So, when we consume this type of stuff, whether as food or as a laxative tablet, it flows down our body, and ends up in our poop tubes!

Now, all this dietary fiber stuff then starts acting like little sponges in your intestines…

Sucking up a load of water!

Which does 2 super important things:

1: Bulks up your poop.

This stimulates the intestine muscles and helps push the poop along…

2: Softens up your poop.

This makes passing the poop much easier!

Imagine trying to push a dry, hard lump of clay versus a soft, moist ball of playdough.

That’s what laxatives do!

Anyway, so this process starts slowly moving the poop through the intestines.

(The only catch is, this takes like a day to work).

So, after a day, you might start to feel the urge.

And it can finally plop right on out!
