Morning Erasers!

Here’s something silly:

What do you think this image is?

Just take a wild guess..

Two sticks and a snack, right?

Or maybe you atleast figure the two sticks are writing utensils (they are).

But the piece of bread?

That’s an eraser..

The FIRST eraser to be exact!

But, HOW does an eraser… erase??

Well, let’s say you’ve written something – 

Now, pencil lead isn’t lead at all.

It’s a soft mineral made of tiny layers of carbon.

AKA Graphite.

And as you write, flakes of that graphite rip off and cling to the paper fibers.

Those flakes will stay forever if nobody bothers th–

Agh!

When you rub rubber on it, the friction warms things up:

The eraser gets tacky

And PULLS the graphite off the paper fibers!

Leaving you all those rubber and graphite crumbs..
