The Invention of the Diaper 🩲
Morning Stinky!
Babies are like SUPER cute…
Until… they poop.
But luckily we’ve got these things to help us out:
Diapers!
But where did this clever invention come from?
So it's the 1940s.
This housewife, Marion Donovan, was growing real tired of having to clean her youngest child’s soiled cloth diaper, OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
Not to mention all the mess that came with it.
(Yeah, these early diapers leaked a LOT)
But Marion was no ordinary lady…
When she was younger, her mother died, so she used to spend a lot of time with her father at his manufacturing plant.
See, he was an inventor.
And he instilled his inventive spirit in his daughter.
So, Marion decided she was gonna invent a solution to this poopy problem!
One that didn't leak everywhere…
So she ripped off her shower curtain.
Sat down at her sewing machine…
And got to work!
She tried a whole bunch of different designs, but eventually… she came up with this:
Designed to fit PERFECTLY around a baby’s bottom.
MUCH better than a random piece of cloth.
She also invented this new snap system to fasten it, instead of the whole pin thing used before.
And finally, inside, she stitched a rectangular sheet of plastic into the fabric.
Making it MUCH easier to clean and nearly completely waterproof…
And thus… LEAK proof!
It was genius!
And look:
No mess!
Stay Cute,
