Are We All Related?

Notice how each generation doubles?

Well, continue this back 40 generations…

You’ll find that you somehow had a TRILLION ancestors all living at the same time around 1000 years ago.

That's literally more people than have ever existed EVER.

So something doesn’t quite add up…

And it all has to do with 1 factor we haven't considered.

INCEST!

No, we aren’t talking about the brother-sister kind…

(Though I'm sure that happened a bit too)

We're talking about the mega distant cousins having babies with each other kind.

Like, if you and your friend look at your complete family trees, and you go back far enough.

You will 100% have an overlap where you have a shared ancestor.

I mean, like HALF of all people on Earth right now share one ancestor who lived ~900 years ago.

For example, take this guy… Genghis Khan:

He pillaged so many towns that literally 1 in 2 people alive today have his DNA…

So, is there 1 person that EVERYBODY shares as their common ancestor?

One single guy or gal that is related to every single person alive today?

Well… actually yea.

This person is known as MRCA or “Most Recent Common Ancestor”.

And they lived as recently as 2300 ish years ago. 

That’s just after the conquests of Alexander the Great.

Literally just under 100 generations ago.

Now we have no idea who this person was, or whether they were male or female (most likely male).

Butttt… we do know that this person almost certainly lived somewhere here:

They were likely a merchant who was incredibly good at making babies.

Someone who traveled extensively across the world, having an absolute TON of children who all went off to have their own kids in far-flung parts of the world. 

Then those kids went off to have their own kids, and then they had their own kids and so on and so on…

This single human is the direct ancestor of every single person alive today.

Making us all related… and one big, incredibly inbred family.
