Wtf is Acid Rain? 🌧️

Morning Raindrops!

Contrary to what cartoons have told us, acid rain isn't actually raining acid.

But don't worry, it's still pretty scary.

I mean, look what it did to this forest:

Okay, okay… wtf is this stuff?

So, imagine you're a drop of water.

Just chillin in a river.

Then the sun absolutely VAPOURIZES you.

Turning you into water vapor.

So, you start to rise.

Floating up into the sky.

The higher you go, the cooler you get.

So you condense into… a cloud!

But then, when the cloud gets too full of water droplets…

So, It starts to rain!

Ok, but we're here for acid rain, not normal rain.

And in that case, something is dissolving into our water droplets…

So, back on the ground again, we see a bunch of cars.

See, when we drive cars, they pump out a ton of gasses.

Two being:

Sulfur dioxide + Nitrogen oxide.

So, when raindrops fall, they combine with these pollutants, creating sulfuric acid and nitric acid.

Acid rain!

But what makes this bad?

Well, winds can spread these acidic solutions over hundreds of miles.

Where they fall to the Earth, seep into the ground, and into water systems.

This can make water toxic to fish and other aquatic animals, as well as affecting birds and other creatures.

It also steals nutrients essential for tree growth from the soil, like calcium and magnesium.

As well as dissolving the waxy coating on the leaves of trees making it so they can’t grow.

That's how it killed that forest earlier.

So, ye, it might not melt you like we imagined, but it still kinda sucks.
